How to Fold an AIDS Crane - The Origami Paper Crane (the Bird) for HIV/AIDS Awareness

Here are visual instructions on how to fold an origami paper crane. Sorry I use the word paper, for the search engines. Origami is understood as using paper.

Start with a square paper. Normally we have 8 1/2 x 11 inch bond paper lying around, so cut a square from it. I made miniature birds for my dolls, and I folded 1 3/4 inch squares for them, and used the narrowest red ribbons I can get.

You can print or copy the steps and post on your sites, but I would appreciate a link back to this blog. There are 4 jpegs, which have been sized for 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper.

Make the AIDS Crane by gluing or sewing the HIV/AIDS Awareness Ribbons to the beaks of the cranes. That pyramid-looking back part of the bird can be spread out, so the bird becomes 3-dimensional. Go to YouTube for the way to hold the 4 areas below the wings to slowly flatten the back. You can string the birds, balancing where you would attach the cord so they look like they are flying. You can make mobiles from several birds.

You can also make pins by not opening out the wings, leaving them pointed upwards, and attaching the ribbon to one wing and taping or gluing a safety pin on the other.

The Conspiracy Show with Richard Syrett: I'm a Featured Guest Sunday October 4, 2015

I will be a featured author and guest at The Conspiracy Show with Richard Syrett, tomorrow, Sunday October 4, 2015. It is a weekly radio show that talks about conspiracy theories and the paranormal. It is based in Toronto, Canada, but the show is syndicated, including 30 stations in the US and more in other countries. I've listened to Richard's show for years, and he also subs for George Noory in Coast to Coast AM, since the show airs 7 days a week, George Noory does 5 days and gets 2 days off by letting other hosts do the show.

My book, Hocus Pocus Lately will be the unifying factor. It is my more paranormal memoir. I have an hour to talk on the air, so I hope you will listen. If you miss the show, they share their shows the following Monday, on YouTube.

You can get their app so you won't miss the broadcast and also have access to all the show's previous shows. You can also go to YouTube for their shows.

Here is the link to their website's homepage:

Here is the link to their YouTube channel:

I decided to screen capture my pages below, because the way their pages are setup, the contents will be changed for the following week's next show as soon as the current show begins airing.

I decided to enlarge the text that mentioned me. This is for posterity's sake. I named the files so Google Images Search will also find me.

I will post the link to the YouTube video / audio as soon as they post it.

Bob Couttie's Temple of the Leper King, An André Velon Mystery

I helped edit and then designed the book for Bob Couttie's novel, Temple of the Leper King. Bob goes back and forth, between the Philippines and Cambodia. He currenly lives in Cambodia. He has British and Australian ancestry and you would appreciate it reflected in the work.

Temple of the Leper King is his first novel.

After years fighting organised crime in the mean streets of Marseilles, retired cop André Velon just wants a quiet life in a peaceful riverside town in exotic Cambodia. When a young French woman is brutally murdered, he is forced into an investigation in which he must not only confront the ghosts of his past, but fight for survival against his own dark demons.

BOB COUTTIE
British-born Bob Couttie has lived in Asia for three decades. Currently, he lives in Kampot, Cambodia. His credits include science fiction short stories, films and radio plays and is best known for his works on Philippine history and maritime accident analysis.

Here is the design for the full cover! Read his book! I enjoyed reading it.

Here is what people had to say:
“The Arkady Renko of
South East Asia!”

“A classic policier!”

“Twists, turns and surprises
right up to the last page!”

“ I love the tone, the strangely relaxed quality,... a kind of
savoir faire that is very pleasing. Perhaps even a tinge of some
of Le Carré, which is very cool -- sophistication of tone.”

Jerry Miller - Empty Space - Creating A Theater In Your Church

I helped edit and then I also designed Reverend Jerry Miller's book, Empty Space - Creating A Theater In Your Church, Step-by-Step. He's very happy with the contributions I did for him. He gave me an autographed copy. I took pictures of him with his book, when he and I had coffee so I can see the books which he ordered and had sent to his home. Click here to go to Amazon.com. The link will open in a new window.

Reverend Jerry Miller is an author, actor, director, writer, producer and lecturer. He has converted “Empty Spaces” of churches into theaters. These theaters have produced plays and arts projects that address social injustice. He is a consultant to churches, other groups and individuals who seek to change their "Empty Spaces" into theater and arts centers that successfully advocate, educate and motivate the public. Jerry holds a Masters in Theology from Perkins at Southern Methodist University and a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of South Carolina. Jerry currently lives in Chicago, Illinois. Reverend Jerry Miller is an author, actor, director, producer and lecturer. If you have plans to put on a show, he can be reached via his email gaev5@yahoo.com or call 773-426-1168.

HIV / AIDS Awareness - Combining the Origami bird or crane with the red HIV AIDS Ribbon

In 1996, I came up with the idea of combining the origami crane with the AIDS Ribbon. As you can see, it is a concept that shows East Meets West. It also looks like a dove with the olive branch. I'm going to promote this concept again.

Two nurses, one from Australia and another one from South Africa, noticed the image online years later. I received separate emails from them, saying thanks for the idea. They both said that the children in their own respective warps had a field day making the cranes, attaching the red ribbon, making mobiles and suspending them in string or attaching them to the walls of their wards. I hope that they all survived that dreaded disease.

I had read that if you combine 2 familiar concepts, a new one will emerge. Because the separate ideas are familiar, the public will have the tendency to adapt the new concept.

One night I was in bed, and I stood up. I suddenly had this idea for AIDS Awareness. In Asia, there is a belief that if you fold 1,000 cranes, your wish will be granted. This was popularized by Sadako Sasaki, who was a survivor of the Hiroshima / Nagasaki atom bombs. She was two years old when Hiroshima was bombed, but she died at the age of 12 of leukemia in 1955. She folded the cranes with the wish to heal. You can read  more about her here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sadako_Sasaki

I got depressed and inspired that year, because several people I knew, most of whom were around my age, died of HIV/AIDS. I felt that I should go public with this idea of the HIV / AIDS Crane, so I went ahead and made this public. I was already writing for a local community free paper, I had a column that featured people in the art field. Getting in the local news myself was like a flipping over, since I was used to featuring others.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO USE THE IMAGES FOR YOUR OWN HIV/AIDS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN.

You can make pins for yourself or your events too. Fold a crane, but don't unfold it.  Instead, mount the right wing to a safety pin, and paste the red ribbon to the left wing. Try using a white bond paper, make a square, and then divide that square into 4 smaller squares. This will give you 4 cranes per bond paper.

Three New Memoirs Coming Soon - Wonder, Hocus Pocus Lately and Leadership Rubs: 1-Hour Mentors

I was busy finalizing 3 Memoirs / books.

In February, I began finalizing 3 books, so I pretty much decided to shut myself in.

So friends come up once in a while, asking me where I had been.

My usual answer was "Oh, I'm writing a book. It's a memoir. Well, actually three books, all of them are my memoirs. That's why I've decided to shut in. Some days I haven't been productive and that's not good. I'm way past my deadline and I'm very disappointed with myself."

Who writes three memoirs at the same time? In two months? Actually some chapters are writings from 2005 and 2006.

So now I have four memoirs. The three new ones and Dollman the Musical from 2012. I have a 5th book I will work on soon. It's only 100 pages worth so far.

I want to be known as the artist who writes memoirs. That was my idea from the beginning, that the way I want to become collectible is because I wrote memoirs. Not just books, but memoirs. My goal is to get into a high end gallery and be in the 7 to 8 figures. It could be a while, but my joke is that anything less than 7 figures, you're getting a bargain. I got stuff on ebay. heeh :-) I can self-publish, but I'm sending copies to someone I know at a major publisher.

Below are my cover designs. I wanted to show my art dolls. I'm sending copies to only about 2 galleries, a publishers and a few financial institutions.
